The capital to fund Venture Philanthropy Partners comes
from four sources: founding investors, institutional investors,
co-investors, and an operations funder. Founding investors
provide the pool of capital to fund VPP’s Children’s
Learning Fund for the National Capital Region and its
philanthropic investments in organizations serving children.
These founding investors are individuals who helped create
VPP, provided strategic guidance, and helped raise or provide
the required capital either as private individuals and/or
in conjunction with their private foundations or donor-advised
gift funds. Institutional investors are major philanthropic
organizations that provide capital to VPP’s Children’s
Learning Fund to help advance VPP’s vision. Co-investors
join with us in formal or informal partnerships to provide
capital and often non-financial support to nonprofit
organizations we select for investment. The Morino Institute
has provided operations funding to cover the organization’s
operational costs from its inception through Q1 2003; after
this time, operations will be funded largely from returns
on VPP’s invested capital.
